This
storm occurred whilst I was at work, however I was expecting the atmosphere
to be explosive later that day and had the camera set up already at home
waiting to be switched on just by picking up the phone and getting a third
party to do it for me! Cunning?

I
came home to witness some fairly impressive footage caught by the unmanned
camera of C-C displays from a very ominous dark looking cell slowly
developing and moving north eastwards.
The cell appeared to have a
high cloud-base giving away medium-level instability which suited the
synoptics as the temperatures were high and high pressure was currently
making its mark. An upper-level trough from the SW ahead of a low pressure
system marched north-east and activated a long line of cells across the
spine of the country, including this one, as the heating got in during the
day. These were mostly situated near high ground including the Pennines
giving rise that orographic enhancement was providing the kick.

Judging by the depth of the CB as shown in the above picture, the cloud base
was definitely high, possibly touching into the bottom end of Alto-level.
