Apparently...

You know those colliders or atom smashers (when atoms hit each other you can hear a quiet *ping!*) well someone's calcualted that one in every billion hits will actually not make the atoms go *ping!* but schtonk!
And when that happens they stick together and create soemthing called a 'strangelet', a particle atom which has a stronger negative charge than the individual atoms as neutrons and protons are lost somewhere... or something like that... But what happens is it attracts atoms towards it, and this increases it's charge and density which in turn attracts more atoms

Exponentially!

In about 4 seconds they reckon the entire planet will be pulled into this singularity and destroy everything and everyone at an economic loss of 3.5 Quadrillion US dollars.

Aparently as it's only 1 in a billion they don't really care. And to stop all thier projects and deconstruct the colliders would cost more than $3.5Q X 1/1B

But it would be inconvenient if it did happen!

This appeared in BBC news just HOURS after I wrote the post... I was only drawing from something I read in a book at uni two years ago., but THEY are listening!!
